About Tsavo
Tsavo — divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West — is Kenya’s largest national park system, covering over 20,000 sq km of raw, diverse wilderness. Vast, wild, and far less crowded than the Maasai Mara, Tsavo offers a truly off-the-beaten-track safari experience.
Tsavo East is the larger and more arid of the two parks, dominated by flat, open red-earth plains cut through by the Galana River. Here, the legendary red elephants — coated in the park’s distinctive red laterite dust — roam in great herds.
Tsavo West is more dramatic in landscape, with rugged volcanic scenery, underground caves, the crystal-clear Mzima Springs (where hippos and crocodiles can be viewed through an underwater glass chamber), and the stunning Chaimu Crater. Together, they represent one of Africa’s most complete wilderness areas.
