Amboseli

Elephants in the Shadow of Kilimanjaro

Overview

About Amboseli

Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain — the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro — creating one of the most breathtaking safari backdrops on the continent. With the snow-capped summit rising 5,895 metres above the flat, dusty plains, every game drive here is set against a truly dramatic canvas.

Amboseli is most celebrated for its enormous elephant herds — some of the largest and best-studied in Africa. These majestic animals have been observed here for decades, and their relative familiarity with vehicles makes for incredibly close, intimate encounters.

The park also features diverse habitats including marshes fed by underground streams from Kilimanjaro, open plains, acacia woodlands, and the dry bed of Lake Amboseli. This variety supports a rich mosaic of wildlife and over 600 bird species.
