Tsavo \u2014 divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West \u2014 is Kenya’s largest national park system, covering over 20,000 sq km of raw, diverse wilderness. Vast, wild, and far less crowded than the Maasai Mara, Tsavo offers a truly off-the-beaten-track safari experience.<\/p>\n
Tsavo East is the larger and more arid of the two parks, dominated by flat, open red-earth plains cut through by the Galana River. Here, the legendary red elephants \u2014 coated in the park’s distinctive red laterite dust \u2014 roam in great herds.<\/p>\n
Tsavo West is more dramatic in landscape, with rugged volcanic scenery, underground caves, the crystal-clear Mzima Springs (where hippos and crocodiles can be viewed through an underwater glass chamber), and the stunning Chaimu Crater.
