Day 1
Departure from Norway
Today you will fly from your desired airport. Let the adventure begin!
Please inform us of your desired departure airport when submitting your request if you would like Safarireiser to be responsible for flight tickets.
Day 2
Arrival Nairobi – Continue to Lake Naivasha
You drive directly from the airport to beautiful Lake Naivasha. The trip goes towards the Rift Valley, a depression in the earth’s crust that stretches from Israel in the north to Mozambique in the south, and the driver stops at a lookout point where you can see the endless plains down in the Rift Valley.
Your stay in Africa starts with a refreshing boat trip on the lake among hippos and pelicans and a walking safari on Crescent Island. You stay at the beautiful Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge where giraffes and zebras graze in the garden.
Other popular activities in Naivasha include bike safaris, horse riding and mountain hikes to Longonot volcano. If any of these sound exciting, we are happy to include them in the program.
Day 4
Safari in Masai Mara
You have breakfast before leaving the camp to spend the whole day in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You eat a picnic lunch out on the savannah. Together with your guide you hunt for the wild animals, especially the “Big 5” which are elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino.
The Masai Mara offers great safari experiences all year round, but is especially good from the latter part of July to September. Then a fantastic spectacle takes place when the wildebeest and zebra migrate from the Serengeti in the south to the Masai Mara in the north. This phenomenon is often referred to as The Great Migration. The Great Migration is the world’s largest animal migration with approximately 1.5 million wildebeest and 500,000 zebra. The Masai Mara has the highest density of mammals in the world when the migration visits the plains.
Tips
Tipping is part of the culture in Kenya and Tanzania. Although tipping is voluntary, it is expected in various situations to thank for good service and a job well done.
We recommend that you tip your safari guide on the last day when you are driven to the airport. Remember that tips should reflect the work done. Most hotels/lodges/camps have a “tip box” at the reception. Tips are then distributed to everyone working on site. A typical tip for a driver on safari days is 10 – 15 US$ per person per day. A typical tip for accommodations is 1 – 5 US$ per person per day.
Security
If you are in big cities like Arusha or Dar es Salaam, we recommend exercising general caution and vigilance, and avoiding walking around the streets after sunset. If you need a taxi, you can book it with our help or through the hotel. Avoid taking a taxi on the street. On safari, it is important to notify a guard if you wish to leave your tent or lodge. There may be wild animals nearby. Read more about the security situation in Kenya here and in Tanzania here .
