Tsavo East and Tsavo West aren’t the same park. They’re completely different landscapes, and together they give you the full Tsavo experience.
Tsavo East is open, vast and dry. Red elephants, the Galana River, endless savannah. Ideal for watching big herds move across open country.
Tsavo West is greener, hillier and more varied. Mzima Springs with its underwater hippo viewing chamber, the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, volcanic terrain, and dramatic scenery throughout.
On a single trip, you get both.
Best time to visit: year-round. The dry seasons (January to March, July to October) offer the best wildlife viewing. The green seasons (April to June, November) bring lush scenery and fewer crowds.
Road transfer between the parks: the drive between Tsavo East and Tsavo West takes 2 to 3 hours along the connecting road. It’s part of the safari experience, wildlife sightings often happen along the way.
Rhino sightings: the best spot is the Ngulia Sanctuary in Tsavo West. Morning game drives give you the best chances.
Children: welcome from age 7. This multi-day format works especially well for families.
Customization: this itinerary is flexible. Nights can be added or removed, accommodation can be upgraded, or it can be combined with Amboseli. Just ask.
