Private Tanzania Safaris

A private safari in Tanzania means your own 4×4, your own driver-guide and a schedule you control. Most trips start in Arusha and cover the northern parks: Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara.

Parks We Cover on Private Tanzania Safaris

The northern parks sit close enough to drive between them. Tarangire and Lake Manyara make a gentle start, and the Serengeti needs more days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What you need to know before you book a safari in Tanzania.

Three days covers Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. If you want the Serengeti as well, plan at least 5 days, because the road from Arusha takes most of a day. Seven days gives you a relaxed pace through all four parks.

The dry months from June to October and January to February are the easiest for seeing wildlife. The long rains usually fall from March to May, when roads are muddy and some camps close. Ngorongoro Crater can be visited all year.

The herds move in a circle through the Serengeti all year, so the location changes by month. Calving happens in the south around January to March, and the Mara River crossings in the north are usually between July and October. We plan your route around the dates you choose, but no one can promise exact herd positions.

Driving is cheaper and lets you see Ngorongoro on the way, but it takes a full day each way. Flying saves that time and suits shorter trips. Tell us your budget and number of days and we will suggest which one fits.

You need a passport valid for at least 6 months and a Tanzania visa. Most visitors apply online on the official Tanzania immigration portal before travel. Carry your yellow fever certificate if you arrive from Kenya or another risk country.

On a private safari only your party travels in the vehicle, and you decide the start time, the stops and the pace. On a group safari you share the vehicle with other travellers and follow a fixed schedule.
