2 Day Tsavo East Safari from Malindi

Your Day-by-Day Itinerary Break Down

This is the easiest way to add a safari to a beach holiday. Tsavo East is Kenya’s largest park, known for its red-dust elephants and wide open plains, and it sits close enough to the coast to reach and return from in two days. We pick you up from your hotel in Malindi, Watamu, Diani or Mombasa and bring you back the next afternoon.

Day 1

Malindi to Tsavo East

Pickup starts at 06:30 from your hotel. The drive to Tsavo East takes around three hours on tarmac road, and we enter through Sala Gate with a game drive on the way in, watching for elephants, giraffes, buffalo and lion. You reach your lodge around 13:00 for lunch and a short rest. At 16:00 you head out again for an evening game drive before dinner and an overnight stay in the park.

Day 2

Tsavo East and return to the coast

An early game drive at 06:30 catches the park at its coolest and most active, before breakfast at the lodge. From 09:30 there is one last game drive on the way to the gate, giving you a final chance at any animals you have not yet seen. You leave the park by midday and arrive back at your hotel in the early afternoon.

FAQS

Two days gives you three game drives, which is enough for a good chance at elephant, buffalo and lion. Rhino and leopard are less common in Tsavo East, so a longer safari or a trip that includes Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary in Tsavo West gives better odds for all five.
Yes. We pick up from Diani, Mombasa, Watamu or Malindi and adjust the day 1 start time to suit the drive from your hotel.
It runs as a private safari, so it is just you and anyone travelling with you in the vehicle.
A light bag with a change of clothes, a jacket for the cool morning drive, sun protection and insect repellent covers most of what you need.
